Industrial Engineering is an inter-disciplinary branch with a basic foundation of mechanical engineering enriched further with adequate exposure in the following streams.
1. Conventional Industrial Engineering including Method Study. Time and Motion Study, Ergonomics (Human Body Engineering) etc.,
2. System engineering and business data processing
3. Management
4. Optimization
5. Quality Assurance and Reliability.
The exposure to behavioral subjects in the industrial engineering graduation enriches perception, interpretive abilities and the student acquires the strength in subjective aspect of engineering to a great degree.
Industrial Engineering is offered at BE level at only three colleges in Maharashtra with total intake of 120 per year out of which Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management , Nagpur alone has the share of 60 intake per year. Most of the prestigious institutes in India including IITs and NITs offer M.Tech in Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai is the Institute established by Central Government of India around 1960 in collaboration with ILO ie International Labour Organization for developing the Industrial Engineering as an independent discipline in India. NITIE offers only Post Graduate and Doctoral programmes in Industrial Engineering.

Mechanical Engineering is the core branch of Engineering with ever increasing demand. Despite of miniaturization and replacement of mechanisms by electronics, final actuation element continues to be mechanical with every industry. Mechanical Engineers are required not only in hard core Mechanical Industries, but also in Chemical, Process Fertilizers, and Software etc. In addition, they play very important role in Government sectors like Engineering Services e.g. Ordinance factories, Indian Railways, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, Power Plants, Aerospace etc. Hence, the employment potential is very high for Mechanical Engineers. Graduate students in mechanical engineering receive training in the traditional mechanical engineering areas as well as the specialized interests of its outstanding faculty, which include mechanics, fluid dynamics, kinematics and dynamics of the systems, heat transfer, dynamics and control, robotics, and advanced manufacturing techniques, machine design and design optimization, automation, computer graphics and material sciences.
The department of mechanical engineering is established in the year 2009-10. The first choice of aspiring engineers was Mechanical Engineering and admission began with SEEE score 189.
