Padma Shri Dr. Nagarajan Vedachalam

Dr. Nagarajan Vedachalam is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering form University of Madras and an Indian space scientist, K. R. Ramanathan Distinguished Professor of the Department of Space and Distinguished Scientist Emeritus of Indian Space Research Organization, known for his contributions to Indian space programme. In a career spanning over 34 years in Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Shri Vedachalam has held several important positions like Group Director, Navigation Guidance Control Group, Programme Director, Inertial Systems Laboratory and Director, ISRO Inertial Systems Unit at Thiruvananthapuram. Since 2006 December Dr. Vedachalam is an ISRO Honorary Distinguished Professor at Vikram Sarabai Space Centre, ISRO, Thiruvananthapuram. He is a recipient of several awards like Dr. Biren Roy Trust National Award in 1990, Astronautical Society of India Award in 1996. In view of his outstanding contributions to Science and Engineering, the President of India was pleased to confer ‘Padma Shri’ on Shri Nagarajan Vedachalam on the 54th Republic Day in 2003.
