Career Prospects

Industrial Engineers are hugely demanded in both India and abroad. The demand for Industrial Engineers is in fact ever increasing. Industrial Engineers are involved in Review production schedules, engineering specifications, process flows, and other information to understand methods that are applied and activities that take place in manufacturing and services, Figure out how to manufacture parts or products, or deliver services, with maximum efficiency, Develop management control systems to make financial planning and cost analysis more efficient, Enact quality control procedures to resolve production problems or minimize costs, Design control systems to coordinate activities and production planning in order to ensure that products meet quality standards, Confer with clients about product specifications, vendors about purchases, management personnel about manufacturing capabilities, and staff about the status of projects.
<br<>An Industrial Engineer can get jobs in almost all types of industries (manufacturing/service).An industrial engineer is a systems integrator – a big-picture thinker. It also covers a wide and varied range of industries from FMCG, IT & system, consultancy, banking & financial institutions to telecom. Industrial Engineers can take self Employment as their first choice. Qualities, techniques required for being an employer is nurtured in them since their inception in to the course module. Self employment opportunities are also available as consultants or specialists usually after suitable years of industrial experience. They can join private consultancy firms, R&D establishments of big companies. Industrial engineers have ample opportunities for pursuing their post graduation studies in and outside INDIA. (Technical and Management). Because of the broad-based nature of the course, industrial engineers can work with all types of engineering and manufacturing industries in the private and public sectors.</br<>

BEST PRACTICES OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

Title of the Practice

  • Development of Innovative modeling Creativity, Innovation and Design Thinking As a part of assignment
  • Learning through model creation in Machine Drawing lab
  • Alumni participation in overall development of students
  • Compulsory Internships, research internship
  • Students research publication through paper publications

Objective of the Practice

  • To prepare the students for placement, entrepreneur and higher studies
  • To motivate and keep the updates on latest development
  • To develop learning interest through various participation
  • To develop effective way of presentation besides the outdoor activities
  • To get the stakeholder feedback for the purpose of system improvement

The Context

  • Stakeholder feedback- Based on the feedback received from the stakeholders including Students, Parents and Alumni. Suggest the improvements to make teaching-learning process more effective
  • Grievances on exam process: To ask the grievances on exam related works and by solving the students’ grievances, the answer sheet is moderated, if required

The Practice

  • Placement, entrepreneur and higher studies preparation: Outcome based education to students. Pre-placement training programs to students. Organizing talk of Alumni (Businessperson) to prepare the students as entrepreneur. External and internal experts talk prepare the students for higher studies
  • Keeping updates: Motivating to access latest online journals, reference materials and creating a platform of research internship, help them to understand the emerging trends in Industrial Engineering as well as in multidisciplinary branches
  • Learning participation: Industrial Engineering students’ Society- Advising to participate in group discussions, technical quizzes, literary, sports and games activities to develop analytical and problem solving abilities in them and thereby, to prepare them for presenting technical papers at conferences, seminars and paper contests organized by this or outside the college
  • Effective presentation besides the outdoor activities: Training to use audio visual aids like power point, charts, models etc for effective presentation. To provide- “beyond syllabus scholarly activities” through Industrial visits, Guest/Expert lectures, social activities, etc.
  • Stakeholder feedback- Grievances on Teaching Learning process: Based on the feedback received from the stakeholders including Students, Parents and Alumni. Suggest the improvements to make teaching-learning process more effective

Evidences of Success

  • Students are grasping the knowledge of teaching, training and industrial exposure and placed through campus recruitment before the eighth semester
  • Students are scoring with higher percentile and selected in foreign universities for higher studies due to research based knowledge
  • Students are preparing themselves as a businessman by getting the management based knowledge
  • Final year result consistently displays more than 90 %

Problem Encountered and Resources required

  • Awareness of the Industrial Engineering discipline is less as compared to conventional branches of Engineering
  • Many PSU’s & Government sectors have not put Industrial Engineering in the list of eligible UG program for employment in their organization hence to include the name of Industrial Engineering in the list is challenge
  • To work on the limits of floors area which is available to Industrial Engineering to cope up with its progress with future?
  • Required more number of faculty to promote the branch
  • Most of the faculty acquiring PhD and hence more PhD scholars are expected
