To educate students in understanding chemical principles involved in engineering systems and also to make them aware about the global changes in the environment and its impact on the society.
About the Department
Chemistry department is teaching Chemistry and Biochemistry courses in first/second semester of B. Tech. Faculties from the Chemistry Department also teaching Environmental Sciences Course in Third / Fourth Semester of B. Tech. Department also offers different Open Electives Courses based on latest technological advancements and advanced fields of Chemistry. The basic objectives of these courses are to develop the necessary skills and abilities to succeed in engineering education. The emphasis is given to knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of Chemistry and its applications in industry, environment and social context. The course content is based on strengthening the fundamental concepts of Chemistry at the atomic, electronic and molecular level for all engineering branches. This knowledge base and its application in various engineering fields can aid in contributing to technological advancement.
The department has a well-equipped Chemistry laboratory, departmental library and research laboratory. Eight research students have been awarded with Doctoral Degree from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur from this research centre.Chemistry Laboratory is a recognized testing centre for petroleum products from the Ministry of Petroleum, Government of India. The department also undertakes an analysis of water samples, cement and other engineering materials.
The department has successfully organized several webinars featuring eminent scientists.
Faculty
The department has one Associate Professor and seven Assistant Professors and all of them having doctoral degree. The average experience of most of the faculty members of the departments is more than 15 years. Faculties of the department are actively engaged in research and other important assignments of the Institute. The areas of specialization and research interest of the faculty members are Nanoscience, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Physical, Polymer, Material Science and Environmental Chemistry. The faculty members have published research papers in the SCI/Web of Science/Scopus Indexed journals as well as Scopus-indexed conference proceedings. One of the faculty members has authored five textbooks on Chemistry for engineering students. Faculty members have published three book chapters. Two patents have been granted, one patent has been published and one copyright has been published by one of the faculty members The faculty members contributed in the Institution as Professor In-Charge/Member of ‘First Year B. E. Office’, “Hostel Advisory Committee”, “Campus Discipline In-charge”, ‘Admission Committee’, ‘Academic Council’, ‘Board of Studies’, ‘Anti-Ragging Committee’, ‘REEF’, ‘Green Audit’ ‘NAAC Committee’, ‘Facilitation Centre’, different ‘Examination Committees’, etc. The faculty members are also holding the positions of Secretory and Executive Body member of the Indian Society of Analytical Chemistry, Nagpur Chapter and also lifetime members of various scientific societies.
