Centre for Microsystems is the central facility at the Institute level established in association with Intellisense, Bangalore. The Center focuses on the development of academic/research infrastructure to improve the programs and activities in the area of Microsystems for societal benefits. The objective of this center is to develop, fabricate, and characterize new class devices and systems, sensors, energy scavengers, RF- MEMS for their potential applications in consumer, healthcare, environment, and energy. The Microsystems touches every facet of our lives and is expected to bring benefits to numerous application areas including industrial, healthcare, and environmental monitoring.
The existing facility includes the MEMS design and analysis platform, MEMS CAD Tool (Intellisuite Software), prototype development facilities, the test, and measurement equipment. This centre allows multidisciplinary learning and research investigating a variety of emerging technologies. The Undergraduate and postgraduate students and research scholars are working in the areas of Microsystems and the Centre for Microsystems provides them a more professional experiment platform and research internship opportunity. The aim of this centre is to bridge the technology gap between industry and academics with hands-on experience and providing new pedagogical methods to students pursuing UG and PG programs in engineering thereby improving employability and entrepreneurship.

Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge
Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had announced the Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge under #AatmaNibharBharat Abhiyan to provide impetus to the strong ecosystem of start-ups, innovators & researchers in the country. Under this challenge Swadeshi Microprocessors were made available under Microprocessor Development Programme initiated by MeitY by IIT Madras (शक्ति processors) and C-DAC (वेगा processors) on FPGA Boards of XILINX. Around 6169 teams (about 10,024 Participants) including teams from- 571 Start-up & 3566 Educational Institutions had participated in the challenge.

Research Internship
Centre for Microsystems offers Research Internship (Full time/ Part-time) for students. These Internships are designed to enhance the knowledge of the students and to provide them a professional research experience. The selected interns are required to work full/ part-time on the project for six months/ six weeks under the supervision of the faculty guide.
Guidelines for Research Internship
- Students shall give the preferences of the research guide/problem statement in case they apply under more than one research guide. Maximum two preferences shall be acceptable.
- Research Interns shall be evaluated based on three seminars, which shall be conducted after every two months.
- The evaluation grades of three seminars shall be finalized by the Guide and the two RRC members.
- The evaluation shall be completely based on the following Rubrics:
First Evaluation:
- The problem statement, project goals, objectives
- Review and Summary of relevant literature
- Knowledge of basic concepts with explanation and elaboration.
Second Evaluation:
- Carefully chosen a methodology or approach that is well-suited to the problem statement
- Clearly explained the methodology or approach and reasons for selecting it.
- Fully addressed the limitations of the methodology or approach.
- Used appropriate simulation/verification / Testing design tools effectively and considered results with various test cases
Third Evaluation:
- Demonstrated the novelty and work done with proper explanation
- Comparative analysis of results obtained with the literature reviewed and original contributions explained, Social aspects/usability of the project
- Technical report writing(research paper/copyright/patent) / Prototype or development of model

From the point, a, b, c any one of the research outcome shall be mandatory along with the recommendations of RRC members and Supervisor upon satisfactory progress, for issuing the Internship certificate. The committee recommended that extra two credits shall be awarded to the students for completing the research internship successfully. These credits would be over and above the minimum required credits for the award of the degree.

RCOEM, Nagpur bagged 4th position and won prize Rs. 20 Lakh in the Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge
SpectroProcessor team of Centre for Microsystem, Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering, Nagpur have secured 4th position and won a prize of Rs. 20 Lakh in the ‘Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge – Innovate Solutions for #AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ an initiative by MeitY, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology during Azadi Ka Digital Mahotsav celebrations.
Following Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of AatmaNirbhar Bharat, Shri Ajay Sawhney, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on 3rd December felicitated the SpectroProcessor team and team has been awarded with Twenty Lakh rupees and 12 month incubation support. The team consists of Ms. Sangeeta Palekar Sammanwar, Research Scholar, Electronics Engineering Department, faculty mentors Dr. (Mrs.) Jayu Kalambe (RCOEM, Nagpur) and Dr. Rajendra Patrikar (VNIT, Nagpur). The research interns team consisting of Rashmi Rathor, Rishabh Sharma, Ravish Dhawan, Huzefa Essaji of Centre for Microsystem worked hard for the development of the POC. The team is working on the project titled “Design and Development of SpectroProcessor for Biomedical Applications”, This project focuses on the development of a fully indigenous blood analysis platform around swadeshi Shakti processor and overcomes the hardware dependency of existing instruments by providing software-based solutions. The team has presented the startup innovation idea at Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi from 1st – 3rd December, 2021. Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State, Ministry of Electronics & IT and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Rajendra Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY, and Shri Abhishek Singh President and CEO, NeGD, and MyGov also graced the occasion.
On August 18, 2020, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) had launched the “Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge – Innovate Solutions for #Aatmanirbhar Bharat” to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country by taking up complex designs and innovate frugal solutions around home-grown processor ecosystem (viz SHAKTI and VEGA Microprocessor). A total of 6,170 teams participated in the quarterfinals of the challenge. These teams were provided with mentorship, financial assistance and Swadeshi Processors (viz. SHAKI and VEGA) ported on Xilinx FPGA Boards to develop innovative Hardware Prototype solutions.
For the semifinals, only 100 teams got shortlisted and all of them received Rs 1 Lakh each and access to SHAKTI and VEGA Processor ecosystem. For the finals, 30 teams were shortlisted and each team was awarded Rs 4 lakh. Out of the 30 teams, 10 most innovative teams won the challenge with their strategic solutions to various problems. Management, Principal RCOEM and the staff congratulated the team and gave best wishes.
